THE FANATIC'S GUIDE TO
"Out of the Blue"
English Version Written by Steve Blum
First Appearances: Dolphin, Curly, Daisy, Babel
Guest Starring: Indramon
- When Impmon jumps up to Indramon's face, he's got his
extra dark colour scheme.
- Impmon calls Indramon a "blue bonehead," which
is all well and good, except Indramon is purple. The previous episode even called him a
"purple pony."
- When the Juggernaut is activated, it merely generates
blue energy beams - the flaming sky effect and portal
that appear the other times the Juggernaut is activated
don't appear. Perhaps this is due to it only working at
40% power, or because it appears to be solely focused on
Indramon.
- Do Takato, Kazu and Kenta simply not notice
"Makura" walking about a foot behind them, or
something?
- When Makuramon makes
a grab for Takato's D-Power, and then scowls, for some
reason his face seems a lot more "human"
(making his disguise seem a lot more effective, see
screenshot). I'm not entirely sure why, but his eyes seem
to be a bit closer together, and his mouth is a smaller
size, plus he's actually cracking a proper facial
expression, instead of his usual blank stare.
- Recognise the dude in black who talks to Yamaki? You
should, it's the same Man in Black that spoke to Janyu
Wong in "Juggernaut."
- What, exactly, is wrong with Calumon this episode? When
Takato, Kazu and Kenta go to the tunnel under the park,
where the Digimon have spent the night, he sounds weak
and tired, and has to be carried around for the rest of
the episode by Jeri. But we never saw him be injured, so,
what, did he just not get enough sleep?
- When Indramon's Digital Field appears over the city,
everyone steps through the doorway of Guilmon's hideaway
to look. From left to right, they stand: Henry, Takato,
Kazu, Rika and Kenta, with Terriermon at the bottom. But
after we get a shot of the Digital Field, and cut back to
the group at a closer angle, they're now standing: Kazu,
Takato, Kenta, Henry, Guilmon and Rika. Terriermon could
still be there, but we can't see the bottom of the
screen.
- The Horn of Desolation is now firing on it's own, without
needing to be blown, as it did in the previous episode.
- The footage of Pyro Blaster and Dragon Wheel are not
stock footage, but are newly animated for this episode,
as often happens. However, these pieces of animation are
sampled and re-used several times in this battle, and
they're not the only things. Pyro Blaster and Dragon
Wheel are the first to be re-used, as Takato and Rika
slash Strength and Hyper Speed Modify Cards.
- After
he is hit with the Dragon Wheel, there's a close shot of
Indramon's head as his hair is blown about. This is
re-used from moments earlier when Gargomon Bunny
Pummelled the Horn of Desolation, sans the green glow
(see screenshot).
- I only just realised this rather large thing when making
my notes - all the Monster Makers consistently pronounce
Janyu Wong's codename, Tao, as "tow" (as in
"towel," see "Digital
Beauty") in both this episode and others. But
the word is pronounced "dow."
- This has always bugged me - why is the Indian Monster
Maker named Curly? Her real name, as we'll later see, is
Rai Aishuwarya, so it couldn't have been derived from
that, and she doesn't have curly hair - not even during
the Monster Makers early days, as flashbacks attest - so
*why is she called Curly*?
- I could well ask the same question about Tao, Dolphin,
Babel and Daisy, of course, as it's not evident why ANY
of these Monster Makers have these codenames - but Curly
sounds like a name you'd base on a physical thing, while
the rest of them seem more like metaphysical jazz (eg: he
didn't get named Dolphin for having fins and a
blowhole...).
- Yamaki informs the Monster Makers that "the Digimon
have an omnipotent master," the Sovereign, that
"gave them their life, and their power." The
Ol' Mak-Daddy needs to phrase that better, as it seems
he's referring to ALL Digimon EVER, when it only actually
applies to the Devas. However, it's exceedingly likely
that Yamaki doesn't actually know what he's talking
about, and actually DOES think that the Sovereign created
all Digimon.
- The Monster Makers apparently share that belief, though,
as Janyu wonders what kind of power that the Sovereign
must posses to turn their artificial lifeforms into
living, breathing creatures - but whatever it was that
came to them, it wasn't the Sovereign, as Zhuqiaomon and
the other three Sovereign weren't created until years
later. Of course, there's no real reason for them to
think Yamaki's wrong at this point. My original entry for
this blooper was based on a misinterpretation and
misremembrance of the scene, and Red Eyes helpfully
pointed out to me that this evolution was Shibumi's
doing, which is a fact (thanks to Red Eyes for that
Yamaki explanation in the above entry, too!).
- The second barrage of missiles that the helicopter fires
on Indramon is footage of the first barrage re-used.
- When the Horn of Desolation turns on the helicopters, the
footage of Pyro Blaster from this episode is re-used
again.
- The footage of Indramon swinging his leg to hit all three
Champions is re-used from his fight with Impmon earlier.
- The next blast from the Horn of Desolation is re-used
footage from earlier, when it fired after Indramon was
hit with the second Dragon Wheel.
- After the horn fires, the background painting of the road
bridge cracking is re-used from earlier, when Indramon
swatted Gargomon down, flipped this time.
- After Rika slashes her card, the footage of Dragon Wheel
striking Indramon is re-used from earlier in the fight,
and it's an especially lazy piece of reuse, because the
Horn of Desolation, which is supposed to be floating in
the air at this point, is still on Indramon's back in
this piece of footage.
- The explosion that follows Takato's Energy
Digi-Modification is re-used from earlier from after
Indramon was hit with the first Pyro Blaster.
- After Growlmon Digivolves, the footage of the cracked
road bridge is used again, flipped back to its original
state, but this time without the uncracked image
preceding it.
- The footage of the Horn of
Desolation descending as WarGrowlmon charges is re-used
from earlier in this battle when it detached from his
back and prepared to fire the first time.
- WarGrowlmon calls Indramon a "big blue bully."
He's PURPLE.
- After he destroys Indramon, WarGrowlmon's roar of victory
is re-used and flipped from a minute or two beforehand
after Growlmon Digivolved into him. It wound appear
they've even re-used the background painting along with
it! Check out the comparison screenshot above, observe
the lamppost (the quality of these two sources differed,
so the clouds are a bit squished and fudged, but work
with me here). Damn, the animation team on this episode
was lazy!
