THE FANATIC'S GUIDE TO
"Now You See It, Now You
Don't"
English Version Written by Steve Blum
First Appearances: Chief Cabinet Secretary
- From the angle that begins with Takato saying "What?
What are you trying to say, Henry?" Terriermon's
ears are abnormally long.
- Tally informs Yamaki that "one of the researchers
needs him to explain something." But as we'll see,
it is no mere researcher - it is the Chief Cabinet
Secretary, one of the government officials that oversees
Hypnos, and Yamaki's immediate superior.
- The layout of Takato's class has changed once again - our
goggle-boy still retains his seat by the window, but now
the adjacent desk is occupied not by Ayaka, as was the
case in "Dream a Little
Dream," but by Jeremy, who we last saw sitting
up at the front of the class in the same episode. The
other kids sitting closer to the front of the class are
not recognisable, but the girl sitting in front of Jeremy
is Jeri's third, nameless friend.
- When Jeri says "Digivolve? Bad!" her feet are
exceptionally small.
- I can't believe that Yamaki gets away with mouthing off
so badly to the Chief Cabinet Secretary. In future
episodes, when he talks to the secretary and the other
chiefs, he addresses them with a forced politeness - but
here, he's just plain rude.
- Maybe it's just me,
but when Takato is talking to the schoolgirl, and holds
his hands above his head (see screenshot) and says
"He's got these... huge ears," he doesn't look
to be mimicking Calumon's ears at all. It looks much more
like he's imitating Rika's hair, as if he was searching
for her in the original, not Calumon - and it makes more
sense for him to be looking for her, to try and find some
explanation for Guilmon's disappearance, than to be
looking for Calumon. The recap for this episode in "A Question of Trust" does
indeed state that Takato was looking for Rika.
- When Takato and Rika are talking, Vilemon's name is back
to being pronounced "Veel-ah-mon" again, rather
than "Veel-mon" from the episode recap in "O Partner, Where Art Thou?"
- When Henry tells Renamon to leave so that she won't
disappear, she says "Rika?" without moving her
mouth.
- Renamon's "fade-out" is different this episode.
Rather than simply slowly disappearing, as she has done
before, she distorts and seems to dissipate, as though
she were deleting, before the fade-out effect occurs.
- I swear, Yamaki is in a REALLY pissy mood this episode.
Not content with insulting his boss to his face, he
proceeds to threaten Riley when she protests the use of
the Yuggoth. But as we'll later learn, Riley is Yamaki's
live-in lover - you'd think he'd be a wee bit nicer to
the woman he's... y'know... with.
- Observe as Riley says "yes, sir," for the
second time, and starts to activate the Yuggoth. Rotating
on the screen is the Yuggoth symbol, which we've been
seeing on the screen behind Yamaki in that one piece of
reused footage from "Guilmon Comes
Alive." At least it's *supposed* to be there
now.
- I've never quite gathered what this "energy
field" is. They sort of attempt to do some
explaining in "The Journey
Begins" - when Guilmon uncovers the portal to
the Digital World, his hands start to fade out, in the
same manner as he does in this episode. But this isn't
just some simple portal to the Digital World - it's got,
like, cables 'n' stuff that hold Guilmon captive. Metablade
indentifies it as a "Digital Zone."
