DIGIMON X-EVOLUTION
Summary

In this incarnation of the Digital World, the realm is overseen by a computer identified as Yggdrasil. When the amount of data created by Digivolution exceeded Yggdrasil's predictions, the Digital World began to collapse, forcing Yggsdrasil to initiate a plan dubbed "Project Ark," which saw it unleash the deadly X-Program to wipe out all the Digimon it had no use for. A selected amount of Digimon were relocated to a new Digital World, constructed of three plains, for further experimentation. But some Digimon left behind were able to survive the wrath of the X-Program, developing an antibody against it - the X-Antibody - that transformed them into new, more powerful versions of themselves. And they too fled to the new Digital World... and that is where our story begins...

Viewed as outsiders by most Digimon, the X-Antibody Digimon are under constant threat from Yggdrasil's elite team of warriors, the Royal Knights (known to consist of Gallantmon, Omnimon, Magnamon, Crusadermon, Dynasmon and Alforce Veedramon - there are twelve of them, but only the first three of these appear in the movie, and Crusadermon's voice can be heard in one scene). One such unfortunate Digimon is the mysterious Dorumon, the nature of whose existence is unknown even to him. After an encounter with a Leomon seeking his X-Antibody and harassment from some Mushroomon, he crosses paths with WarGreymon X, leader of a resistance movement who is attempting to make regular Digimon realise that Yggdrasil is a threat to them all. Following a battle with Omnimon, WarGreymon X entrusts a Tokomon to Dorumon's care,  but unfortunately, they both soon run afoul of Omnimon, only to have WarGreymon X and MetalGarurumon X come to their aid. In the course of the battle, Tokomon is injured and receives the X-Antibody from MetalGarurumon X, who apparently dies. Tokomon becomes Tokomon X, and Dorumon Digivolves into his Champion form of Dorugamon, but then Gallantmon intervenes in the battle, revealing that Yggdrasil has moved Project Ark into it's second stage - the complete deletion of the Digital World, and all Digimon, both normal and X. Gallantmon has turned against Yggdrasil because of this, and Omnimon clashes with him, but in the course of the battle, Gallantmon allows himself to be impaled on Omnimon's sword, dying, but claiming that there is something he must find out by doing so.

In a renewed offensive, Mangamon, captures Dorugamon, and Yggdrasil splits his data. When Omnimon questions this, it is revealed that Dorumon is not a normal Digimon, but an experimental being created by Yggdrasil (although quite what his purpose was is not clearly divulged in the movie). Dorugamon is returned to the Digital World, and is found and taken in by a rebel Digimon group, but the other half of his data transforms into Death-X-Dorughoramon, who lays a series of Digi-Eggs that hatch into a massive swarm of Death-X-Dorugremon. These beasts proceed to attack the cave base of the rebel Digimon, and although they, WarGreymon X and MetalGarurumon X (who is alive and well with no explanation, and is still in his X form, despite giving Tokomon his X-Antibody... er, yeah, I don't know either...) defend themselves, things look bleak. Tokomon X awakens Dorugamon, and he Digivolves into his Ultimate form of Dorugremon - and is startled by his similarity to the Death-X-Dorugremon.

The battle reaches it's peak when Gallantmon returns, reborn with the X-Antibody as Gallantmon X, and opens the doorway to Yggdrasil for Dorugremon, telling him he will find his answers there. Entering Yggdrasil's realm, he is confronted by Omnimon and Mangamon, but in the course of the battle, Digivolves into his Mega form - Alphamon, who Omnimon and Magnamon recognise as the legendary leader of the Royal Knights. Although Magnamon is still loyal to Yggdrasil, he cannot stop Alphamon and Omnimon from venturing towards Yggdrasil. And as they do so, the second phase of Project Ark begins... and the Digital World begins to die...

The duo's path is blocked, however, by Death-X-Dorughoramon, who Alphamon quickly dispatches, allowing them to reach Yggdrasil. But Yggdrasil remains silent, refusing to debate with them, and as they prepare to destroy it, the floor of the chamber erupts - Death-X-Dorughoramon has transformed into Death-X-Mon, and the two knights seem unable to defeat him. Alphamon realises that Death-X-Mon is his shadow, his own darkness, and so sacrifices himelf to destroy him, impaling them both on his own sword. He transfers his X-Antibody into Omnimon, who becomes Omnimon X, while he and Death-X-Mon recombine into Monodramon. Omnimon X destroys Yggdrasil, and the Digital World dies... and is reborn.

Gallantmon X and Omnimon X meet on a mountaintop, and discuss the situation, realsing how they were all manipulated by Yggdrasil. And in the valley below, Monodramon and Tokomon X are reunited.
