ICHIJOUJI
Known
members of the Ichijouji family include: Ken,
his brother Sam, and their parents (unnamed).
The Ichijoujis always seemed to overlook their youngest son, Ken,
in favour of Sam, a child prodigy – but when Sam died in a
car accident (see his own entry for details), Ken resolved
to be as much like Sam as he could, to fill the void left in his
parents lives. His wishes were fulfilled by the Dark Spore
within him, and his parents heaped attention on him – but it
was more for their sakes than his.
Mrs. Ichijouji appears to have some form of job in catering,
while Mr. Ichijouji apparently works at a computer-programming
firm, where Yukio Oikawa is also employed. Oikawa was
invited to Sam’s funeral, which was where he saw Ken for the
first time.
When Ken ran away from home, the Dark Spore having made him
apathetic towards society, and fled into the DigiWorld to
become the Digimon Emperor, the Ichijoujis were distraught
– Mrs. Ichijouji particularly, having lost one son already.
When
Ken was reverted back to normal, and came back
to the real world, he lost his memory. While Ken slept, his
parents realised how they had acted, and blamed themselves for
everything that had happened, and then tried to help Ken regain
his memory.
Mrs. Ichijouji kept close watch on Ken, afraid that he might
disappear again, but her faith in her son was slowly restored as
he formed friendships with the other DigiDestined kids.
When Oikawa implanted Dark Spores in other kids, the DigiDestined
turned to Ken’s father for help. He was able to give them
information on Oikawa which helped them track him down.
Mr. and Mrs. Ichijouji were then both present at the summer camp
when the final battle with MaloMyotismon took place.
Mr. and Mrs. Ichijouji first appear in “A New
Digitude.” Mrs. Ichijouji’s voice is
supplied by Wendee Lee, and Mr. Icijouji's is supplied by Frank
Catalano.
ICHIJOUJI, KEN
See Ken
ICHIJOUJI, SAM
Sam Ichijouji is
the elder brother of Ken Ichijouji of the DigiDestined
When he was young, Sam was revealed to be a child prodigy, adept
at just about everything. As a result, the boys’ parents
tended to overlook Ken in favour of Sam, which lead to Ken
harbouring a grudge, although Sam was generally a good brother,
most notably helping Ken to blow bubbles.
One day, a Digivice emerged from Sam’s computer in
front of the two boys, and Sam put it into his desk drawer. Ken
disobeyed his instruction not to touch it – and at his
touch, it activated, and pulled him through Sam’s computer,
into the DigiWorld. Ken returned to the real world later
that day (although he was in the DigiWorld for several weeks
– this is a Japanese writing error, as Earth-time and
DigiWorld-time had been synchronised by this point. However, it
*could* be passed off on Millenniummon's
ability to warp space and time, as Ken encountered this villain
while in the DigiWorld) to be scolded by Sam, who took the
Digivice from him.
Angry, Ken wished, as he had before, that Sam would “just
disappear.”
But what Ken didn’t know, was that this time, he would get
his wish.
Details are not available, but Sam was killed in a car accident,
being run over. Ken blamed himself for this, and was seen at
Sam’s funeral by Yukio Oikawa, a workmate of his
father’s. Oikawa realised that Ken was a DigiDestined, and
sent him an anonymous e-mail, prompting him to use the Digivice
again. The Dark Spore within him, which had been planted on his
first trip to the DigiWorld, sidetracked him to the World of
Darkness, where he immersed his Digivice in the Dark Ocean,
transforming into the Dark D-3. The power of the Spore
began to affect Ken, and fulfilled his greatest desire – to
be more like Sam, so he could fill the void in his parents’
lives. As a subconscious side effect of this, while in the guise
of the Digimon Emperor, Ken styled his physical appearance
so that he looked more like Sam.
Towards the end of the kids’ adventures, Sam reappeared in
an illusion created by MaloMyotismon. Ken witnessed
himself being beaten by the Digimon he had mistreated in
the past, and then Sam appeared, and offered to take him away
from it, and help him. Wormmon appeared to dispel the
illusion, and all the kids fought together to defeat
MaloMyotismon.
Sam Ichijouji first appears in “The Crest of
Kindness,” in silhouette form, in a brief
flashback to his death. This is the first time he is mentioned,
and both Ken and Mrs. Ichijouji talk about how he was
“lost.” His face first appears in a picture, in the
episode recap for “The Crest of Kindness” in “Davis
Cries Wolfmon.” Sam first appears fully in “Genesis
of Evil."

IKKAKUMON
Group: Sea Animal - Level: Champion
- Type: Vaccine - Attack Techniques: Harpoon
Torpedo, Heat Top
Ikkakumon is the Digivolved form of Gomamon,
the Digimon partner of Joe of
the DigiDestined. Ikkakumon first appeared to
save Joe from the Black Gear-infected Unimon.
Joe had decided to try and prove his worth to the other
DigiDestined kids by climbing Infinity Mountain
on his own, but on the way up, he and Gomamon were attacked by
Unimon. Gomamon Digivolved to Ikkakumon, and freed Unimon from
the gear with his Harpoon Torpedo attack. Ikkakumon appeared
again to help Birdramon fight Lord Bakemon,
and then arrived late to participate in the final battle with Devimon.
When the kids arrived on Server, Ikkakumon
appeared several times to battle Etemon and his
forces, helping deal with SkullGreymon and
duping the sinister simian so Tai and some of
the others could get inside his pyramid to free Datamon.
Ikkakumon next appeared to battle ShogunGekomon,
and a few times thereafter to deal with the threats posed by Myotismon
and his minions as the vampire overlord tried to open the portal
to Earth. When the portal was opened, Gomamon went back with Joe
and the others and Digivolved to Ikkakumon to battle Gesomon.
When the kids successfully got back to their homes, they then had
to converge on Central Odaiba to battle
Myotismon, who had found the Eighth Child - the predestined
eighth member of the DigiDestined, who was actually Tai's little
sister, Kari. Ikkakumon took Joe and TK across
Odaiba Bay, but they were attacked by MegaSeadramon,
and Ikkakumon Digivolved to his Ultimate stage
of Zudomon to defeat him. Ikkakumon was there to
battle VenomMyotismon also, and then returned to
the DigiWorld with the others to battle the Dark
Masters.
Gomamon Digivolved to Ikkakumon and then to Zudomon to fight Scorpiomon,
and then, he left the group along with Joe, who decided to stay
with Mimi, who no longer wanted to fight. He
Digivolved again to battle MetalEtemon, and
rejoined the team a little later, Digivolving to Zudomon again to
battle Piedmon and Apocalymon.
In May 2000, Ikkakumon was rendered unable to Digivolve to
Ultimate when Joe and the other DigiDestined gave up the powers
of their Crests to seal the DigiWorld off from evil.
Four years later, when the Digimon Emperor was in the
process of conquering the DigiWorld, Gomamon was attacked by some
Gizamon under his control in the frozen north, and called
on Joe for help. Joe and the new DigiDestined kids arrived, and
when the Control Spire was destroyed, Gomamon was once
again able to Digivolve into Ikkakumon, to destroy the Ebidramon
who was trying to put the squeeze on Digmon with his
Harpoon Torpedo attack.
Some time later, when a MegaSeadramon under the Emperor’s
control had trapped the DigiDestined in an
underwater offshore oil platform, Cody managed to escape
and call on Joe for help. Ikkakumon arrived to battle
MegaSeadramon, calling him his “old foe.” This would
seem to lend credit to the notion that this is the same
MegaSeadramon that he had fought in Odaiba four years before.
Joe also called on Whamon for help, and he freed the kids
while Ikkakumon held MegaSeadramon off. The kids had uncovered
the Digi-Egg of Reliability while in the oil platform, and
it took Joe to convince Cody to lift it, and activate it,
allowing Armadillomon to Armour Digivolve to Submarimon.
Ikkakumon noted that he would be unable to beat MegaSeadramon
unless he Digivolved to Zudomon, but with help from Submarimon,
the Dark Spiral was broken and MegaSeadramon was freed.
Ikkakumon next appeared when BlackWarGreymon was
destroying the Destiny Stones. The DigiDestined had hidden
the sixth stone underwater, and Ikkakumon had been called on to
help protect it. He brought with him a shoal of Dolphmon,
as well as MegaSeadramon. We can presume that this is the same
MegaSeadramon that he freed from the Emperor’s control
previously. However, the fact that it’s helping him out
might imply that it’s not the one who worked for Myotismon
– or then again, it could be the same one, just
reborn with a different attitude. However, despite all their
efforts, even with the added power of Paildramon, Silphymon,
Angemon and Submarimon, BlackWarGreymon was still able to
destroy the stone.
At Christmas time, the new DigiDestined brought the partners of
the older DigiDestined into the real world so they could spend
Christmas with them. While the new team went to Ken’s
house for a Christmas party, the older kids went to Matt’s
latest concert – but a DarkTyrannomon and a squad of Bakemon
interrupted it. A Control Spire had appeared, and many more
Digimon had shown up on Earth as well. The new kids and their Armour
Digimon arrived to destroy the Spire, and the older Digimon
Digivolved. Ikkakumon and the others beat back the Champion
Digimon, through the Digi-Port on Izzy’s
laptop, then the DNA Digivolved Digimon defeated the
Ultimates.
Ikkakumon’s lost ability to Digivolve to Ultimate was
restored by a power boost from Azulongmon’s
Digi-Core, courtesy of Gennai. He then went with Joe, Cody
and Armadillomon to Australia to round up the wild Digimon there.
After he and Digmon destroy the second-to-last of the Control
Spires there, they met up with Gennai’s Australian
counterpart, Hogan, and with Derek, an Australian
DigiDestined, and his partner, Crabmon. They managed to
scare off a Gesomon, a Shellmon and an Ebidramon by
threatening to turn them into a three-course seafood meal, but
were then confronted by a Scorpiomon. Ikkakumon Digivolved to
Zudomon to battle him, along with help from Submarimon, and Coelamon,
Crabmon’s Digivolve form. They defeated him, and then
destroyed the last of the Control Spires.
Ikkakumon came back to Japan with everyone else, and then
Digivolved to Zudomon to help battle SkullSatamon. All the
Ultimates were defeated by this evil Digimon, and then sacrificed
their power again to energise Imperialdramon, allowing him
to Mode Change to his Fighter Mode to destroy
SkullSatamon.
Gomamon went back into the DigiWorld, helped seal up the Highton
View Terrace gate, and was present during the final battle
with MaloMyotismon, but Ikkakumon did not appear again.
Ikkakumon first appears in "Ikkakumon's
Harpoon Torpedo." His voice is supplied
with R. Martin Klein.
Name: From the Japanese word, "ikkaku," meaning
both "one horn" and "iceberg."
"IKKAKUMON'S HARPOON TORPEDO"
Digimon Adventure episode #7
English version written by Rebecca Olkowski and Eddie Leiner
Joe attempts to
scale Infinity Mountain on his own, and
is attacked by the Black Gear-infected Unimon,
only to be saved when Gomamon Digivolves
to Ikkakumon
for the first time.
ILYA
Ilya is the Russian counterpart to Gennai, who was
supposed to help Sora and Yolei to communicate with
the Russia DigiDestined, Anna, Sonya and Yuri.
However, he was late in arriving, so Sora and Yolei had to work
it out on their own to defeat a swarm of Flymon. When he
finally did arrive, he took the girls to Moscow, where they
battled a troop of Mammothmon. Things were looking bad,
but Imperialdramon arrived to save the day. Ilya then
disappeared, presumably teleported back to the DigiWorld.
Ilya appears in “Digimon World Tour, Pt.
3.” His voice is supplied by Neil Kaplan.
Name: Unlike most of the other duplicates, Ilya does not
appear to be named for anyone specific to his country, but has
instead simply been given a rather generic Russian name.
IMPERIALDRAMON
Group: Ancient
Dragon – Level: Mega – Type: Vaccine
– Attack Techniques: Positron Laser, Mega Crusher (Dragon
Mode), Positron Laser, Giga Crusher (Fighter Mode), Omni Sword,
Giga Crusher (Paladin Mode)
Imperialdramon is the Mega form of Paildramon, the DNA
Digivolved form of ExVeemon and Stingmon, the Champion
level Digimon partners of Davis and Ken of
the DigiDestined. He is one of the strongest Digimon in
existence, capable of flying faster than the speed of sound. He
can project an impenetrable force field. When Imperialdramon Mode
Changes to his Fighter Mode, he retains all these abilities,
and his power becomes tripled, and he becomes even more powerful
when he is transformed to his Paladin Mode, and gains the mighty
Omega Sword.
When Digimon began to appear all over the world, the DigiDestined
quickly had to get together to work out what to do. When Davis
heard that a Triceramon had appeared in Ken’s home
area, he immediately headed there, where ExVeemon and Stingmon
DNA Digivolved into Paildramon to battle the dinosaur Digimon. Mummymon
joined the battle, and demolished a portion of a building,
sending rubble tumbling down towards Davis and Ken.
Meanwhile, at Izzy’s home, Gennai had
appeared, and produced one of Azulongmon’s
Digi-Cores, using its power to restore the original eight
Digimon’s lost ability to Digivolve to Ultimate. The
light erupted from the Digi-Core and streaked across Tokyo,
striking Paildramon, endowing him with the power to Mega
Digivolve, and become Imperialdramon for the first time. He
quickly and easily dispatched Triceramon back to the DigiWorld,
and then rounded up the other Digimon in Japan, destroying all
the Control Spires with ease, in the space of a few
minutes.
Imperialdramon then took all the DigiDestined to various spots
around the world, so they could round up all the Digimon there.
Along the way, he destroyed several Control Spires in countries
they were not stopping in. When he made his last stop in America,
he split back into Veemon and Wormmon, who went
with Davis and Ken (with Matt) to different locations.
After their jobs were done, Davis, Ken and Matt presumably met
back up, and had Veemon and Wormmon become Imperialdramon
again. They then gathered
up Joe, Cody, Tai, and T.K., and
headed for Russia, where they arrived just in time to have
Imperialdramon take down the Mammothmon about to trample Sora
and Yolei. They then went to Hong Kong to pick up Izzy and
Kari, and returned to Japan for Christmas morning.
Shortly
thereafter, the Daemon Corps appeared on Earth,
searching for Ken. Imperialdramon engaged one of their number, SkullSatamon,
in battle, but he was paralysed by the villain’s attack.
SkullSatamon then beat all the other Ultimate Digimon around, and
they reverted to Rookies. The original eight Digimon then
gave up their energy to boost Imperialdramon’s power,
allowing him to Mode Change into his Fighter Mode for the first
time, to destroy SkullSatamon. Imperialdramon split back into
Veemon and Wormmon, and Ken was then taken away by Arukenimon.
When Davis tracked down Arukenimon, Mummymon and Oikawa,
about to hand Ken over to Daemon, Imperialdramon appeared again
to battle Daemon. He Mode Changed, and was joined by Silphymon
and Shakkoumon in holding Daemon off while the kids came
up with a plan. Ken used the dark power within him to open a gate
to the World of Darkness, through which Daemon was sent.
After this, when BlackWarGreymon reappeared, Davis, Ken
and their Digimon were busy redirecting traffic away from the
battleground. Paildramon attempted to stop the fleeing
Arukenimon, Mummymon and Oikawa, but had to become Imperialdramon
to try and stop BlackWarGreymon and WarGreymon’s
battle, which was spreading into a nearby town. He quickly Mode
Changed and brought the fight above cloud level to protect
innocents. A Terra Force, a Terra Destroyer, a Positron Laser and
a colossal explosion later, and the fight was done.
When the kids were in MaloMyotismon’s dream
dimension, after defeating illusions of their greatest desires,
they used the power of the dimension to grant a wish of their
own, making their Digimon Digivolve to all their different forms
at once. The two Imperialdramon modes faced off against
MaloMyotismon with all the other Digimon, and fired on him with
their Positron Lasers, somehow rupturing reality, and casting the
villain into the DigiWorld. As only the “true”
incarnation of Imperialdramon could go through, Fighter Mode
passed through the portal, while Dragon Mode faded away.
Imperialdramon, Silphymon and Shakkoumon were then taken
down by MaloMyotismon’s Screaming Darkness attack, as he had
powered himself up with the darkness in the DigiWorld. He
attempted to infect both Earth and the DigiWorld with pure
darkness, but when the DigiDestined from all over the world
arrived, the power of their united dreams weakened him,
destroying his body. Then, the power of all their Digivices
energised Imperialdramon, and he activated his Giga Crusher
attack, using it to atomise MaloMyotismon’s essence,
destroying him for good.
Three months later, it was discovered that Diaboromon
had survived his battle with Omnimon four years
previously, and had used the time in between to reproduce as
millions of Kuramon. Omnimon successfully
managed to destroy Diaboromon again, but the Kuramon all escaped
to the real world, where they merged into the massive Armageddemon
in Tokyo Harbour. Omnimon was defeated and immobilised, and
Imperialdramon then entered the fray, quickly assuming his
Fighter Mode, but even the power of his Giga Crusher could not
defeat Armageddemon's. Then, Omnimon transformed his energy into
a holy ring, embodying everyones hopes and dreams, which turned
into the Omni Sword. When Imperialdramon grasped the sword, he
was transformed into his Paladin Mode, and impaled Armageddemon
through the head, causing him to discorporate back into Kuramon.
The DigiDestined channelled the light of their Digivices through
the sword, and the other spectators of the battle did the same
with their cell phones, capturing all the Kuramon.
Imperialdramon first appears in “Dramon Power.”
Imperialdramon Fighter Mode first appears in “Invasion
of the Daemon Corps.” Imperialdramon Paladin
Mode first appears
in "Revenge of Diaboromon." They both
have the same
voice, supplied by Derek Stephen Prince and Paul St. Peter.
Sometimes, the two actors speak as one; at other times, they
speak individual lines.
Name: From “imperial,” meaning royal.
"Dra" is short for "dragon." A
"Paladin" is a champion of a cause.
"THE IMPRESSION THAT I GET"
Track 7 on the "Digimon: The Movie"
soundtrack, which plays during the movie after Diaboromon’s
defeat, starting when Sora opens her e-mail
from Tai. For the lyrics to this song, click HERE.
INFERMON
Group: Unknown -
Level: Ultimate - Type: Unknown - Attack Techniques:
Spider Shooter, Network Grenade
Infermon is the Digivolved form of Keramon,
the part-virus, part-Digimon creature which hatched from
the Digi-Egg created by the American chosen child, Willis,
when it was attacked by a computer virus on the Internet. Keramon
Digivolved to Infermon, bypassing the Champion level, to
battle Greymon and Kabuterimon, who were attempting
to stop him from consuming computer data from the Internet, and
defeated them by attacking them before they finished Digivolving
to MetalGreymon and MegaKabuterimon. He then
escaped, and made his way into the phone company network, cutting
off communications across the world. Hacking his way into the
American military network, Infermon initiated a nuclear launch,
directing the missiles at Japan, planning to wipe out the
DigiDestined! WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon battled
him, but he defeated them by Digivolving to his Mega stage
of Diaboromon.
Infermon appears in "Digimon: The Movie."
His voice is supplied by Paul St. Peter.
For more information, see Diaboromon.
Name: From “infernal,” meaning hellish
(“inferno” means something comparable to the believed
appearance of Hell, such as a raging fire).
INFINITY MOUNTAIN
The mountain at the centre of File Island, used
by Devimon as his base of operations. During
their first days in the DigiWorld, the kids
headed inward towards Infinity Mountain in search of help. Upon
reaching the mountain's base, the kids camped out for the night,
but Joe, trying to prove himself to the others,
tried to climb it on his own, only to encounter the Black
Gear-infected Unimon. Gomamon
Digivolved to Ikkakumon for the first
time to save him. Upon scaling the mountain, the kids found a
mysterious mansion, where they stayed the following night, only
to be set upon by Devimon during the night, and split up, cast to
separate parts of File Island. Once the kids all met up again,
they scaled Infinity Mountain again, and had their final battle
within Devimon, wherein Angemon saved the day.
INOUE
Known members of the Inoue family include: Yolei, her
sisters, Momoe and Chizuru, her brother, Mantarou, and her
parents (unnamed).
The Inoue family is notably the largest of all the DigiDestined
families. Her parents run a convenience store, called the
Ai-Mart, which is located on the bottom floor the apartment
building that the Inoues live in, along with the Takaishis
and the
Hidas.
Yolei frequently uses it as a source of food for the
team’s trips to the DigiWorld. The oldest of her
siblings, her brother Mantarou, is a college student. Her eldest
sister, Momoe, is good friends with her classmate, Davis’s
sister, June (although they’ve only ever actually
been seen together on one occasion, at Matt’s
concert in “A Very Digi Christmas”).
Chizuru is in the same class as Matt.
Mr. and Mrs. Inoue both noted Yolei’s excessive removal of
food from the store, before they learned about Digimon.
When Yolei was watching a samurai movie towards the beginning of
the summer vacation, her dad changed the channel, instructing her
to go to bed. A jibe from her brother did not put Yolei in the
best of moods. When Yolei was having trouble reconciling her
feelings
towards Ken, after he had Stingmon destroy Thundermon,
her siblings offered her some advice – though they got the
wrong end of the stick, thinking Yolei was talking about a
boyfriend. Mantarou commented: “Young love…
sweet!”
When the kids were in MaloMyotismon’s dream
dimension, and were subjected to illusions of their greatest
desires, Yolei’s was that she was an only child, not passed
over in favour of her siblings. This is rather weak when
compared to the other, more poignant illusions the other kids
saw, but, it’s really down to the fact that during the
course of the series, Yolei didn’t HAVE any serious problems
to address. Yolei’s parents and siblings were all
present at the summer camp during the final battle with MaloMyotismon.
In March of the following year, a new evil arose in the
DigiWorld, and Momoe, Chizuru, June Motomiya and Jim Kido all
became DigiDestined to combat it - a precursor to the future
where everyone on Earth has a Digimon partner. This
was revealed in a Japanese audio drama released two years after
season two ended.
Mrs. Inoue first appears in “Family
Picnic.” Her voice is supplied by Peggy
O’Neal.
Mr. Inoue first appears in “Guardian
Angel.” His voice is supplied by David Lodge.
Mantarou first appears in “Big Trouble in
Little Edo.” His voice may or may not be
supplied by Jonothan Fahn in this episode, but it is supplied by
Tom Fahn in "Spirit Needle."
Momoe and Chizuru first appear in “Spirit Needle."
Chizuru's voice is supplied by Elizabeth Rice, while Momoe's may
or may not be supplied by Dina Sherman.

"INVASION OF THE DAEMON CORPS"
Digimon Adventure 02 episode #43
English version written by Michael Sorich
Evil Digimon appear in Japan, causing chaos. SkullSatamon
confronts the DigiDestined, and defeats all their Digimon,
but the original eight Digimon give their power to Imperialdramon,
allowing him to Mode Change to his Fighter Mode to destroy
him. Then, Daemon appears and demands Ken come with
him – but Ken is taken away by Arukenimon!
Episode Trivia - This episode marks the departure of Jeff
Nimoy and Bob Buchholz from the series.
A notable animation error occurs this epsiode - in his
dream/flashback, the young Ken is drawn taller than he should be,
with a white shirt, instead of short and with a pink shirt, as
per "Gensis of Evil."
The white-shirt appearance was featured in the same episode, but
comes from when Ken visited the Dark Ocean.
"IRON VEGIEMON"
Digimon Adventure 02 episode #4
English version written by Jeff Nimoy & Bob Buchholz
The Digimon Emperor erects a new Control Spire, and
Gabumon calls Matt and the new DigiDestined
into help. Veemon takes on RedVegiemon
in an attempt to bring the depressed Davis out
of his funk, and during the battle, the Control Spire is damaged,
allowing Gabumon to become Garurumon. The Spire
is destroyed and the slaves are freed.
Episode Trivia: This episode is named after the TV cooking
show, "Iron Chef," which is why RedVegiemon uses so
many cooking metaphors.
ISHIDA
Known members of the Ishida
family include: Matt, his father, Hiroaki, and his
grandmother on his father’s side.
Hiroaki was formerly married to Nancy Takaishi, and they
had two sons, Matt and T.K. The family lived in Highton
View Terrace for a time, during which Matt and T.K. saw the
battle between Parrotmon and Greymon. It’s not
known if the family’s move out of Highton View Terrace
coincides with the parents’ divorce, which occurred some
time between said battle, and the events of August 1999.
Hiroaki works at the TV station in Odaiba – he
appears to be a reporter. While reporting on the “monster
invasion” story of 1999, he managed to avoid capture by Myotismon’s
invasion squads, and headed back home to alert Matt to the
situation. A dubbing error has made it seem that Matt’s
father knows what Digimon are, or, at least, what a Gabumon
is. This is unequivocally wrong, and he is NOT, repeat NOT one of
the original five DigiDestined children.
He headed for the TV station, which appeared to be the source of
the fog bank sealing the city off, where he encountered Izzy,
who explained to him about Digimon. He was quite distressed at
the sight of Garurumon, and helped out the injured Wizardmon,
and was on the scene for the final battle with Myotismon.
When Myotismon was destroyed, Hiroaki and T.K. took a boat out
into the bay to try and find a way through the fog, only to be
attacked by Gizamon. The pursued them back to land, but
the Gizamon vanished, converted into energy by Myotismon’s
bats to power his rebirth as VenomMyotismon.
After VenomMyotismon’s destruction, Nancy and Hiroaki saw
each other for the first time in a long time. They realised that
they had to let their children return to the DigiWorld, and
watched as they floated up into the sky. While the kids’
battles with the Dark Masters lasted many days in the
DigiWorld, it was only a few minutes on Earth, and so Hiroaki and
Nancy, and all the other parents stood and watched the sky,
bearing witness to the final battle with Apocalymon.
Eight months after
this, Hiroaki’s
mother was introduced when Matt and T.K. went to spend spring
break at her house in the country. She’s not quite “all
there.”
Four years later, Matt’s father often found himself involved
in the kids’ adventures again some way, although his
memories of the monster invasion, like the memories of every
other non-DigiDestined person on Earth, had faded away. When
Wizardmon’s ghost was causing trouble at the TV station,
Matt’s father was worn out with the problems that ensued.
After that, he took Tai, Matt and Izzy on a camping trip,
which was, in actuality, a cover for the new DigiDestined to go
on a mission to destroy the Digimon Emperor’s base.
Hiroaki was not particularly at home in the wild. When it was
time to return home, Matt was stuck taking the bus with June.
When Digimon began to appear in the real world, Hiroaki’s
memories of four years ago returned. The TV station was
televising Matt’s concert at Christmas when a DarkTyrannomon
and some Bakemon appears and wrecked it, but the
DigiDestined dispatched them back to the DigiWorld. When Imperialdramon
was leaving to deposit the DigiDestined around the world,
Matt’s father and his camera crew arrived, but they

"IT'S ALL IN THE CARDS"
Digimon Adventure episode #28
English version written by Mark Ryan and John Ludin
Gennai appears
in the flesh to help the kids crack the riddle of the key
cards and return to
Earth.
"I WANNA SING A SONG"
The song sung by Mimi at the behest of the Gekomon
and Otamamon to awaken their master ShogunGekomon.
Mimi continually made excuses so she wouldn't have to sing, and
got the Digimon treating her like a princess. Tai
and Joe convinced her to sing the song, the
finalised lyrics of which are:
I wanna sing song!
A song to bring Shogunmon arou-u-ound!
When he hears my voice,
I hope he likes the sound!
He has to listen,
Listen to my sincere heart!
I've learned my friends are friends even when they're apart!
I've asked my friends to forgive me from the bottom of my heart!
If it's my choice, his eyes will open wide,
And the Gekomon will be cheering...
Cheering with pride...
It was apparent that Mimi had more to sing, but the grumpy
ShogunGekomon woke up and interrupted the performance. Mimi
sang "I Wanna Sing a Song" in "Princess
Karaoke." Note the error in the lyrics which
was prevalent in all dialogue this episode - that is, referring
to ShogunGekomon and "Shogunmon." In the original
Japanese version of the episode, Mimi sang "I Wish,"
the show's Japanese ending theme.
IZUMI
Known members of
the Izumi family include: Izzy and his foster parents
– his father, Masami, and his mother, Yoshie.
The identities of Koushiro “Izzy” Izumi’s
biological parents are unknown. They died in a car crash when
Izzy was very young, and he was cared for and raised by Masami
and Yoshie Izumi, Masami being a distant cousin of his natural
father’s. Izzy was aware of the fact that he was adopted
before his foster parents told him, when he heard them talking
one night. The family lived in Highton View Terrace four
years before the events of August 1999, moving out at some point
after Izzy saw the battle between Greymon and Parrotmon.
The Izumis were introduced shortly after the DigiDestined
kids returned to the real word in pursuit of Myotismon.
Mrs. Izumi heard Tentomon’s voice, but Izzy was able
to throw her off the scent by saying he was practising a comedy
routine. Later, Izzy snuck out whenever his Digivice
picked up the signal of the Digivice belonging to the Eighth
Child, who Myotismon was searching for.
When Myotismon invasion squads attacked, rounding up the
population, Izzy’s mother tried to make him leave the
computer and come with them, to get away. Izzy refused, in the
middle of downloading the Digital Barrier from Gennai,
and his father told his mother to let him finish. The barrier was
activated, and the Izumis were protected from Myotismon’s Bakemon.
Izzy then headed for the TV station to find out what was going
on.
When Myotismon was destroyed, Izzy met back up with his parents
in the convention centre, where they told him that he was
adopted. He explained that he knew, and then burst into tears.
Tentomon quietly sniffled behind a pillar. When Gennai sent the
prophecy that foretold the rebirth of Myotismon, Mrs. Izumi
offered a little advice on what the part about “shooting
arrows” meant. Mr. and Mrs. Izumi then watched as Izzy
returned to the DigiWorld with the other kids, and bore witness
to the final battle with Apocalymon.
Four years later, the
Izumi’s memories of Digimon and the DigiWorld, like
the memories of every other non-DigiDestined person in the world,
had faded away. After Paildramon first appeared, Izzy
called the new DigiDestined to his house, so he could explain to
them about DNA Digivolving. Yolei was about to open
the Digi-Port there and then, but Mrs. Izumi entered with
a tray of snacks, drawing her attention. While the kids ate, Mrs.
Izumi noticed the In-Training Digimon in their arms,
something inside her brain sparked – and she asked Izzy
where Tentomon was. Izzy sweatdropped, laughed, and quietly
trailed off. The episode then ended, and we didn’t find
out how Izzy got out of that one...
When the kids were preparing to travel all over the world to
round up wild Digimon that had appeared, Mrs. Izumi, knowing that
the monster troubles were starting again, like four years before,
arrived to give Izzy a package of rice balls for the trip,
realising he had to go away again.
When the DigiDestined were standing watch at Highton View
Terrace, Mrs. Izumi arrived to give them some peanut butter and
jelly sandwiches. Izzy was a little irritated, but she explained
that she just wanted to do her part, like all the other parents
were doing. Izzy suggested that she phone the parents of the
children Oikawa had implanted with Dark Spores.
Mr. and Mrs. Izumi were both present at the summer camp during
the final battle with MaloMyotismon.
Mr. and Mrs. Izumi first appear in silhouette form, and have
their voices heard, in a brief flashback Izzy has in “Kabuterimon’s
Electro Shocker.” They first appear in full in “The
Eighth Digivice.” Mrs. Izumi’s voice is
supplied by Mari Devon. Mr. Izumi’s is supplied by Jeff
Nimoy in the flashback, then Dan Lorge performs him in "The
Eighth Digivice" and "City Under
Seige," and then Nimoy resumes the role in "Prophecy."
IZUMI, KOUSHIRO
See Izzy
IZZY
Koushiro Izumi, nicknamed Izzy,
is a member of the DigiDestined, partnered with Tentomon
and holder of the Crest of Knowledge. Izzy is a
child prodigy, hugely intelligent and making common use of his
over-developed vocabulary. Izzy's biological parents both died in
a car crash when he was very young, and his father's distant
cousin adopted him. The family lived in Highton View Terrace
for some years, during which time Izzy saw the battle between Parrotmon
and Greymon. It was also during this time that Izzy
overheard his parents talking, and learned that he was adopted.
When Izzy discovered this fact, he became an introvert, burying
himself in his computer. He always carries his Pineapple Mac
laptop computer with him. His catchphrase is
"Prodigious."
At the summer camp in 1999, Izzy was attempting to get an
infra-red Internet connection when a peculiar atmospheric display
disrupted it - and not minutes later, the Digivices
smashed down into the camp, and the kids were sucked into the DigiWorld.
Izzy's primary theory about their transportation was that it was
"a twisted alien joke." He formed a quick bond with his
Digimon partner, Tentomon, who had intelligence
and personality much like Izzy. When the kids came across a
factory running on a perpetual motion system, Izzy latched his
laptop (which had run out of power since the kids arrival in the
DigiWorld) up to the factory's power source, in an effort to
learn more about the DigiWorld. Meanwhile, the other kids were
attacked by Andromon, who was infected with a Black
Gear, but Izzy was unaware of this, as he somehow tapped
into a program that began to prompt Tentomon's Digivolution.
Tentomon cried out in pain, and Izzy shut the program down, and
went to join the others, as Greymon and Garurumon
were battling Andromon. Tentomon instructed Izzy to use the
program again, and he Digivolved to Kabuterimon
for the first time to join the fight, using his Electro Shocker
to destroy the gear, freeing Andromon. After the kids were
separated by Devimon, and sent to different
chunks of the shattered File Island, Izzy and
Tentomon found themselves in the middle of a jungle, where they
came across a temple, full of hieroglyphics similar to the
inscriptions in Andromon's factory. Izzy began to attempt to
translate them, and was soon met up with by Mimi and Palmon.
When Izzy became so engrossed in his work that he began to ignore
her, Mimi ran off crying. Tentomon followed her, and they ran
into the Black Gear-infected Centarumon.
Kabuterimon and Togemon destroyed the gear, and
Centarumon explained that the temple was built to honour the
DigiDestined. Leomon then attacked, but the
power of Izzy and Mimi's Digivices - being displayed for the
first time - saw him off.
When the kids arrived on Server, Izzy found his Crest,
the Crest of Knowledge, at the same time as Matt
found his, while they were hiding out at Piximon's
training ground. When Izzy latched his laptop up to a port of Etemon's
Dark Network, he received an e-mail from someone
being held prisoner in Etemon's pyramid. Izzy, Tai and Sora
ventured into the pyramid and freed the prisoner, Datamon,
who turned on them and captured Sora and Biyomon.
Izzy and Tai went on to free her.
After Tai was sucked back to Earth in the final battle with
Etemon, Izzy made it his priority to find Gennai
and learn more about the DigiWorld. He and Tentomon were captured
Vademon and Izzy gave up his curiosity to try
and save himself from Vademon's bottomless pit. When Izzy was
reduced to a zombie-like state due to this, a connection somehow
opened between his laptop and Tai's computer in the real world,
but the zombified Izzy told Tai not to bother coming back. The
scene is very confusing in the dub, not least because the
dialogue doesn't match up between the two episodes it features
in. Izzy is clearly in Vademon's pocket dimension for the
duration of the whole conversation, but it initially makes one
think Earth/DigiWorld time dilation comes into effect as it is
made out that Tai is replying to another message Izzy sent
beforehand, and because Izzy is speaking coherently, rather than
dulled, when in reality, it's just been dubbed badly. Meanwhile,
DemiDevimon tried to get Vademon to give him
Izzy's Tag and Crest. Tentomon De-Digivolved to Pabumon
due to Izzy's zombie-state, but still managed to snap Izzy out of
it. Izzy reclaimed his curiosity and his Crest, and Tentomon
Digivolved to MegaKabuterimon to defeat Vademon.
Izzy then met up with Matt and T.K., and was
e-mailed the Digimon Analyser by Gennai. When
the kids were back together again, they penetrated Myotismon's
castle in an attempt to follow him back to Earth and stop him
from finding the Eighth Child. Izzy, with advice from Gennai, was
able to unlock the secret of the key cards and
opened the portal to Earth, allowing the kids to follow
Myotismon.
Izzy's Digivice was the first to pick up the signal from the
eighth Digivice, but he was unable to find it. After being
e-mailed the Digital Barrier by Gennai, Izzy
headed for the Odaiba TV station, where he met
up with Matt's father, and explained to him about Digimon.
MegaKabuterimon participated in the battle with Myotismon, after
which Izzy received an e-mail from Gennai, who had unearthed an
ancient prophecy which foretold Myotismon's return. Izzy was
finally told by his foster parents that he was adopted, and he
told them that the had already known. Then, Myotismon rose again
as VenomMyotismon, and Izzy was able to crack
the prophecy, making it possible for Agumon and Gabumon
to Warp-Digivolve to their Mega
stages to defeat him
Izzy went back to the DigiWorld with the others to battle the Dark
Masters. He remained with Tai when Matt, Mimi and Joe
left, always ready to help out with his technical knowledge and
the Digimon Analyser. When they were fighting with Machinedramon,
Izzy used his laptop to access his network, inadvertently
alerting Machinedramon's forces to the kids' location. When they
were lost in the sewers, Izzy's logical thinking enraged Tai, and
he punched him. Tai apologised, but Izzy refused to hit him back.
After defeating Machinedramon, Izzy was present for the fight
with LadyDevimon, wherein MegaKabuterimon turned
the tide, and for the battles with Piedmon and Apocalymon.
Thereafter, Izzy returned to Earth with the other kids as the
DigiWorld was reformatted to normalcy.
Eight months later, while surfing the Internet, Izzy came across
a computer virus, which began to attack something on the Net.
Izzy quickly discovered that the virus's target was a Digi-Egg!
Thanks to the virus, the egg developed abnormally fast, and soon
hatched into a Kuramon - a part Digimon, part
virus Baby creautre. In a panic, Izzy contacted
Tai, but before they knew what had happened, the Baby Digivolved
to an In-Training. Worse still - this Digimon was actually
inside the Internet, and would be capable of interfacing with all
computers across the world! Izzy latched his computer to Tai's
and Tai's father's, and they were able to contact Gennai, who
dispatched Agumon and Tentomon into the Internet to battle the
Digimon, who had Digivolved to his Rookie level of Keramon. They
Digivolved to Greymon and Kabuterimon to deal with him, but then,
he Digivolved again, bypassing the Champion level, and
going straight to his Ultimate form of Infermon!
Infermon beat back MetalGreymon and MegaKabuterimon, and
escaped, transferring himself into the phone company, and
creating a communication shutdown. Tai was able to get in touch
with Matt, and WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon did battle
with Infermon's Mega stage of Diaboromon, who had
initiated a missile launch in America, targeting the nuclear
warheads at the DigiDestined in Japan, threatening to destroy
them all! They were defeated by him, as a result of e-mail sent
by kids from across the world watching the battle on their
computers slowing down Izzy's computer, and their Internet
connection, but then, when the children sent e-mails of hope to
bolster the two Digimon, the energy from the mails re-powered the
two Megas, and allowed them to fuse together into a newer, more
powerful Digimon - Omnimon! Izzy hit on the idea of
rerouting all the kids' e-mails, resulting in slowing down
Diaboromon in the same manner that they had been slowed down
earlier, allowing Omnimon to destroy him, and terminate the
missile launch.
In May 2000, Izzy and the other DigiDestined gave up the powers
of their Crests to seal the DigiWorld off from evil – but in
the process rendered their Digimon unable to Digivolve to the
Ultimate level. Subsequently, Izzy remained in e-contact with
Gennai.
Four years later, when the Digimon
Emperor began his conquest of the DigiWorld, Agumon called
Tai for help. Tai then sent an e-mail calling for reinforcements,
and Izzy met up with Kari and T.K. in the school’s
computer room, ready to travel into the DigiWorld to help out.
However, one of their classmates, Davis, followed them
– and much to everyone’s surprise, received a Digivice
that emerged from the computer. Two other kids, Yolei and Cody
also received them, but they were out of the room at the time.
Davis, T.K. and Kari travelled through the Digi-Port, and
Izzy was about to follow when Yolei and Cody ran back in, and he
had to hide his Digivice from them. While Davis, T.K. and Kari
were in the DigiWorld, Izzy explained to Yolei and Cody about
Digimon (as their memories of four years prior, and the memories
of every other non-DigiDestined person on Earth, had faded away).
The following day, Izzy and Sora travelled with Davis, Yolei,
Cody, Kari and T.K. into the DigiWorld, where Davis and Veemon
were captured by the Digimon Emperor. Yolei and Cody located
their Digi-Eggs, but were hesitant to use them. Izzy
offered Cody some important advice, convincing the boy to
activate his Digi-Egg.
As the new team’s adventures carried on, Izzy was most
definitely the one member of the original DigiDestined who helped
them out the most. When they returned from their adventure in the
Gardromon city, Izzy was waiting, indignant that they had
gone to Tai and Matt for help, rather than him. Tai apologised,
and then Izzy revealed some new information on the new model
Digivices that the new DigiDestined had, dubbing them D-3s
and commenting on how he had a lot of help with the research from
his friend Willis.
Izzy was watching the battle between SkullGreymon and the
new DigiDestined’s Digimon, and was shocked to learn that
the Digimon Emperor had been able to gain control over Agumon,
realising that none of their Digimon were safe.
When Kari made her first trip to the World of Darkness,
Izzy did some theorising over it, but his thoughts were
interrupted when his computer informed him that a Digi-Port had
opened in America. He e-mailed Mimi about it, and she and Michael
then met with the new DigiDestined in the DigiWorld.
When the kids were trapped in an offshore oil platform, Cody
called Joe for help, and Joe called on Izzy, who contacted
Whamon for help.
During the summer, the kids were rendered unable to use the
school computer room. The American version of the show rather
screws up
the timeframe at this point of the series, saying instead that
the room was to be used for detention, which makes no sense, since it's
the summer break. In the original Japanese version, the room was being
used for a summer computer class. On the anniversary of
the original DigiDestined’s first trip into the DigiWorld,
Izzy hit upon the idea of opened a Digi-Port program on Tai and
Kari’s home computer, which would enable them to travel into
the DigiWorld.
All the DigiDestined were in the DigiWorld, battling the
Emperor’s forces. Izzy and Cody were successfully able to
locate the Emperor’s base, and a plan was then organised so
that the new kids could enter the DigiWorld, and stay there until
the Emperor was defeated. Izzy, Tai and Matt went on a camping
trip with Matt’s father, to act as a cover for the new
DigiDestined. Izzy came up with a plan to allow the DigiDestined
access to the Emperor’s base, and they were successfully
able to destroy the Emperor’s base.
When the reactor for the Emperor’s base suddenly became
active again, Izzy detected it, and contacted the kids, who raced
to the scene. Izzy then phoned Ken’s house, and spoke to Wormmon,
who got Ken to join the others. They attempted to
use Ken’s Crest of Kindness to stop the warp, and for
a moment, it appeared that it had succeeded, but then the warp
destabilised again, and the reactor began to open a doorway to
the World of Darkness. Paildramon, the DNA Digivolved form
of ExVeemon and Stingmon, then destroyed the
reactor, stabilising the warp.
The following day, Izzy called the kids to his house, where he
explained to them about DNA Digivolving, and told them the story
of how the original DigiDestined gave up the power of their
Crests years before. Yolei prepared to open a Digi-Port there and
then, but Izzy’s mother entered with a tray of snacks,
catching her attention. As the kids sat and ate, Mrs. Izumi saw
the In-Training Digimon in their arms, and the faded
memories began to come back to the surface, causing her to turn
to Izzy, and ask him where Tentomon was. Izzy sweatdropped,
laughed, and just trailed off. The episode then ended, and we
never DID quite find out how Izzy got out of that situation.
When Yolei went on a class trip to the city of Kyoto, she
left Poromon with Izzy. Izzy and Ken engaged in a
discussion, where Izzy explained some theories he had formulated
about the nature of the DigiWorld, and it’s connection to
the human subconscious mind. Yolei alerted them to the situation
in Kyoto – BlackWarGreymon and several other Digimon
had appeared there – and Ken used the DigiWorld to quickly
get to Kyoto to get Poromon to her.
At Christmas time, Izzy was reunited with Tentomon when the new
DigiDestined brought the partner Digimon of the older kids into
the real world to spend the holidays with them. The older
DigiDestined all went to Matt’s concert, but it was
interrupted by the appearance of Digimon in the real world. When
the Armour Digimon destroyed the Control Spire, the
older Digimon Digivolved. Izzy got his laptop, and Yolei opened a
Digi-Port on it, and the Digimon were sent back through it. That
night, Izzy made a startling discovery – Digi-Ports were
opening all across the world!
Izzy called all the DigiDestined together, to formulate a plan of
action. Izzy was aware of the existence of other DigiDestined all
around the world, and he and the other then set about tracking
down their locations. Izzy then called on Gennai for help, and he
arrived, a young man again (with no explanation), and used the
power of one of Azulongmon’s Digi-Cores to restore
the Digimon’s lost ability to Digivolve to the Ultimate
level. Izzy and the others then prepared to head off to various
points around the world to round up the Digimon that had appeared
there. Before he left, his mother appeared, having realised that
he would be leaving again, and gave him some rice balls for his
trip.
Izzy and Kari went to Hong Kong, where they encountered the Poi
Brothers. The brothers were unaware of the concept of
DigiDestined, and Izzy found himself unable to explain to them
adequately. Gennai’s Chinese counterpart, Jackie,
stepped in to deal with the problem. In the original Japanese
version, the Poi Brothers
couldn’t understand Japanese, and Izzy and Kari were totally
unable to communicate with them. Jackie acted as a translator.
Then, Izzy, Kari and the eldest Poi Brother headed out to the
India/China border, to help an Indian DigiDestined girl named Mina
to get a large number of Digimon across. Izzy and Kari were then
the last to be picked up by Imperialdramon on the return
flight to Japan.
Back in Japan, evil Digimon known as the Daemon Corps
began to appear, causing chaos. The DigiDestined battled SkullSatamon,
but their Digimon were defeated by him. A Digi-Port was opened on
Izzy’s computer, and the older Digimon went through it after
giving their power to Imperialdramon, allowing him to Mode
Change to his Fighter Mode and destroy SkullSatamon.
A
little while after this, Izzy and the other DigiDestined, sans
Tai and Sora, kept watch at Highton View Terrace for the children
Oikawa had implanted with Dark Spores. Izzy’s
mother showed up again, with some peanut butter
and jelly
sandwiches – Izzy was irritated, but she explained that she
was just trying to do her part like the other parents.
When Oikawa opened his portal,
Izzy, Matt and Joe were too late to go through, and were left
behind. They, Tai and Sora then went with the families of all the
other DigiDestined to the summer camp where they were first
sucked into the DigiWorld, and opened the gate there, to travel
into the DigiWorld, and lend the power of their Digivices to
Imperialdramon, allowing him to use his Giga Crusher attack to
obliterate MaloMyotismon.
Three months later, Izzy discovered that e-mails containing
pictures of Tai and Matt were circulating on the Internet, which
led him to discover that Diaboromon had, in fact, survived the
battle with Omnimon four years beforehand. In the time in
between, he had reproduced as millions of Kuramon, and via these
e-mails, the Kuramon were being transmitted into the real world.
He called all the DigiDestined together to explain the situation,
and quickly put a plan together. While Tai, Matt and Omnimon entered the Internet
to battle Diaboromon, the other kids rounded up the Kuramon, and
sent them back to him so he could deal with them. When Kari, T.K.
and their Digimon entered the Internet to help out, Diaboromon
was successfully destroyed, but Davis had played right into his
hands, as he demanded the gate be opened for him so he could go
to Kari. Yolei opened it so wide that all the Kuramon were able
to escape through it into the real world, where they merged into Armageddemon.
Imperialdramon Paladin Mode then destroyed Armageddemon, and the
DigiDestined used their Digivices to capture the Kuramon - as the
normal spectators used their cell phones to do the same - and
send them to Izzy, who took care of them.
Twenty-five years into the future, the portal to the DigiWorld
remains open, and Tentomon is still at Izzy’s side. Izzy is
now a scientist, acting as the head of projects researching the
DigiWorld, working with Mr. Takenouchi and Jim Kido.
He is married, and has a daughter, who has a Motimon for a
partner (though nothing was ever said of his wife).
Chronologically speaking, Izzy first appears in “Digimon:
The Movie.” Izzy first appeared in the series in "And
so it begins..." His voice is supplied by Mona
Marshall.
