"THE CAPTIVE DIGIMON"
Digimon Adventure 02 episode #10
English version written by Seth Walther
The Digimon Emperor proves
unable to control Agumon with just a Dark
Ring, and so creates the more-powerful Dark
Spiral. Wormmon
secretly frees Agumon, hoping that the Emperor will then allow
him to fight in his place, but the Emperor instead seeks out
Agumon and manages to capture him again, using the Dark Spiral to
Dark Digivolve him into a viral version
of MetalGreymon!
CATHERINE
Catherine is the DigiDestined
from France, who is partnered with a Floramon. Tai,
T.K. and T.K.'s grandfather arrived at the
Palace of Versailles in search of the Digimon
who had come to France via a Digi-Port opened by
Arukenimon, and found Catherine and Floramon
being held captive by Mamemon, BigMamemon,
MetalMamemon and Giromon.
Catherine and Floramon were freed during the ensuing battle, and
Floramon Digivolved into Kiwimon
to help MetalGreymon and MagnaAngemon
defeat their opponents. The Mamemons and Giromon were returned to
the DigiWorld, and T.K. and Tai then both kissed
Catherine in celebration.
Catherine reappeared when the Digimon of the world's DigiDestined
united against MaloMyotismon.
Catherine appears in "Digimon World
Tour, Pt. 2" and "A
Million Points of Light." Her voice is
supplied by Philece Sampler.
CENTARUMON
Group: Animal -
Level: Champion - Type: Data -
Attack Techniques: Solar Ray, Jet Gallop
The first Centarumon the kids met was encountered by Izzy
and Mimi, while under the influence of a Black
Gear. The kids had all been separated by Devimon,
and sent to separate chunks of the shattered File Island.
Chuumon and Sukamon led Mimi
and Palmon to Izzy and Tentomon,
who had discovered a huge temple enscripted with hieroglyphics
much like those in Andromon's factory, which had
so interested Izzy previously. Izzy was so engrossed in using his
computer to translate the inscriptions that he began
unconsciously ignoring Mimi, to the extent that she ran off
crying. Tentomon followed her, and they both ran into Centarumon,
the temple's guardian, who had become infected with a Black Gear.
Izzy was able to guide them through the maze-like temple, and
Tentomon and Palmon Digivolved to Kabuterimon
and Togemon to take out the gear. Centarumon
explained that the temple had been built to honour the DigiDestined,
and bore the symbol of the Digivice - the small
digital apparatus that the kids had found before being teleported
to the DigiWorld. Centarumon knew this meant
that the kids were very important to the sanctity of the
DigiWorld, but before he could explain any more, Leomon,
infected with another Black Gear, attacked! Centarumon was no
match for him, but beams of light that radiated from Mimi and
Izzy's Digivices caused him pain, forcing him to retreat. Mimi
then gave a large Black Gear sticking out of the ground a kick,
causing it to rotate in the opposite direction, sending the chunk
of File Island back towards Infinity Mountain.
Much later, Centarumon located the ancient "Wall of
Fire" that the prophecy in his temple spoke of. He
immediately called in Gennai, who tried to warn the kids
that the prophecy was nearing fulfilment - but before he could,
they were attacked by Apocalymon, the creature who had
come from beyond the Wall of Fire.
After Apocalymon's defeat, Centarumon appeared to congratulate
the kids.
This Centarumon first appears in "A Clue
From The Digi-Past." His voice is supplied
by Bob Pappenbrook.
Four years later, when Digimon were rampaging on Earth after Arukenimon
opened all the Digi-Ports, Davis,
Mimi and Michael were aided in battle against a Cherrymon
by an American DigiDestined named Maria, and her
partner Digimon, a Centarumon. This Centarumon
appeared again when MaloMyotismon was infecting
Earth with darkness.
This Centarumon appeared in "Digimon
World Tour, Pt. 1" and "A
Million Points of Light."
Name: Derived from the word "Centaur," a half-man,
half-horse creature from Greek mythology.
CHAMPION
Champion level Digimon Digivolve
from Rookie Digimon. For one of the DigiDestined's
Digimon to Digivolve to Champion, they require their Digivice.
Originally, the holder had to be in peril, but as time
progressed, the kids and the Digimon gained more control over the
process, allowing it to happen whenever they needed. For other
Digimon to attain the Champion stage, they must grow into it
naturally.
"A CHANCE ENCOUNTER"
Digimon Adventure 02 episode #33
English version written by Jeff Nimoy & Bob Buchholz
In the city of Kyoto, Yolei and
Ken discover BlackWarGreymon,
and fight Apemon and Musyamon,
who have followed him through to Earth. Before anything else can
happen, BlackWarGreymon simply disappears, teleporting himself
back to the DigiWorld.
"CHANGE INTO POWER"
Track 14 on the "Digimon: The
Movie" soundtrack (hidden track number 2),
by Paul Gordon. This song premiered in the Digimon
Adventure episode, "Ogremon's
Honour." This extended version plays during
the closing credits of the movie. It was used only once as a
battle theme for Digimon Aventure 02,
in "Storm Of Friendship."

CHERRYMON
Group: Vegetation - Level: Ultimate
- Type: Data - Attack Techniques: Pit Pelter,
Illusion Mist
The first Cherrymon encountered by the kids was a minion of the Dark
Master, Puppetmon. When T.K.
initially escaped from the clutches of Puppetmon, Matt
began to doubt his purpose as part of the DigiDestined
and wandered off with Gabumon to be alone. While
in the forest, Matt was approached by Cherrymon, as per
Puppetmon's instructions. With trickery, he managed to make Matt
believe that he was unable to grow as a person because of Tai,
and convinced him that he had to fight and defeat him. Initially,
Matt was wary of the tree-like Digimon, and
Gabumon told him to follow his heart. Matt's Crest
regained it's previously-lost glow, and Gabumon Digivolved
to MetalGarurumon, promising to stand by Matt no
matter what he decided. Cherrymon had been successful - Matt
headed off to fight Tai. Cherrymon then informed Puppetmon of
this, but warned him to be careful in battling the kids.
Puppetmon, enraged that Cherrymon doubted his abilities, used his
Puppet Pummel attack to destroy him.
It is possible that when Apocalymon was defeated
and the DigiWorld was reformatted to normalcy
that Cherrymon was reborn as a Digi-Egg in the
same manner that the other deceased Digimon were.
This Cherrymon first appeared in "Trash
Day," and was also destroyed in this
episode, although he appeared again in a flashback in "Ogremon's
Honor." His voice is supplied by Jeff
Nimoy.
Four years later, when Digimon were rampaging on Earth after Arukenimon
opened all the Digi-Ports, a Cherrymon appeared
in New York. While being led to the rendezvous point by Phil,
it became enraged by the sight of the Rockafeller Centre
Christmas tree lighting up, and attacked it. It could not be
convinced to stop, and had to be battled by Davis,
Mimi, Michael and their
Digimon, and then defeated with help from the other American
DigiDestined.
This Cherrymon appeared in "Digimon
World Tour, Pt. 1." Its voice was also
supplied by Jeff Nimoy.
Name: Derived from the English word,
"cherry," a fruit which grows on trees.
CHIBOMON
Group: Micro - Level: Baby
- Attack Technique: Bubble Blow
Chibomon is the Baby stage of Veemon,
the Digimon partner of Davis of
the DigiDestined. Chibomon appeared for the
first time after ExVeemon and Stingmon
DNA Digivolved into Paildramon, and
then separated upon reverting. After a good night's sleep,
Chibomon Digivolved back into DemiVeemon.
Then, Chibomon appeared after Paildramon separated after the
first battle with Arukenimon and Mummymon,
and after BlackWarGreymon defeated Paildramon
during the DigiDestined first battle with him. Chibomon appeared
consistently when Paildramon separated - his last appearance was
after the battle at Christmas.
Chibomon first appears in "Fusion
Confusion." His voice is supplied by Dina
Sherman.
Name: While it may immediately appear to be derived
from "chibi," the Japanese term meaning small, it's
actually a corruption of his Japanese name, "Chicomon,"
which may come from the Spanish word "chico," meaning
"small."
CHROME DIGIZOID
The strongest metal in the DigiWorld, from which
MetalSeadramon's armour, MetalEtemon's
armour, Zudomon's hammer and possibly WarGreymon's
Dramon Destroyers are fashioned.
CHUUMON
Group: Animal - Level: Rookie
- Type: Virus - Attack Technique -
Whisper Voice
Chuumon is the partner of Sukamon, because they
share one tiny brain between both of them. They first appeared
when Mimi and Palmon were
stranded in the forest on a chunk of the broken-up File
Island by Devimon, and attempted to get
Mimi to pay a toll to pass through the forest. Sukamon and
Chuumon both developed some peculiar kind of crush on Mimi, but
obviously, she was having none of it. When they tried to grab her
purse, her Digivice glowed brightly, and
suddenly, Sukamon and Chuumon were nice guys! They quickly led
her to Izzy.
Chuumon and Sukamon next appeared as part of the group of Digimon
recruited by DemiDevimon to be part of Myotismon's
army. However, with Nanimon as their boss, they
soon grew fed up - as did all the others who were under his
command. Palmon and Agumon, having disguised
themselves and infiltrated the castle, took advice from Sukamon
and Chuumon, and were able to inebriate Nanimon with soda. Or
alcohol, in the original Japanese version. They quickly
left.
The DigiDestined kids then returned to the real world to stop
Myotismon's plans for conquest, and Sukamon and Chuumon went back
to File Island. However, in the years that passed in the
DigiWorld while the kids were in the real world for a few days, a
new power arose - the Dark Masters, four Mega
level Digimon, took over the DigiWorld and
reconstituted it into the massive Spiral Mountain.
In the chaos of the reformatting, Sukamon fell into a chasm and
died. Chuumon was left alone, until the DigiDestined
returned, and were filled in on the situation by him. The kids
were then pulled into battle with the four evil Digimon, and were
defeated. The leader, Piedmon, was about to kill
Mimi, when Chuumon leapt in front of his attack, sacrificing
himself to save her.
After the Dark Masters and Apocalymon were
defeated, all the Digimon who had died were reborn as Digi-Eggs
at Primary Village - including Chuumon - to
start life anew.
Four years later, Chuumon, having been reborn, appeared briefly
after the new DigiDestined defeated the Dark Spiral-possessed
Digitamamon, with Sukamon, to ask Mimi out on a
date. She retaliated by punching the duo over the horizon.
A Chuumon and Sukamon were seen in New York when Digimon were
appeared on Earth, and were sent back to the DigiWorld. Whether
or not they were the same Chuumon and Sukamon is unknown, but
with Mimi in the city, it's pretty likely.
Chuumon first appears in "A Clue From
The Digi-Past." In this episode, his voice
is supplied by Dave Mallow. In "The Gateway
To Home" and "Enter
The Dark Masters" (in which he died), his
voice is supplied by Doug Erholtz.
Name: From the Japanese word, "chuuchuu,"
being the noise a mouse makes.

Episode Trivia This episode sees Mimi make the erroneous
dub reference to her baby brother, who does not exist.
CODY
Cody Hida
is one of the DigiDestined, partnered with Armadillomon,
and holder of the Digi-Eggs of Knowledge and Reliability.
Cody is the youngest of the new DigiDestined, but is wise beyond
his years - a lot of his wisdom gets from his grandfather, who
also teaches him the Japanese martial art of Kendo. But Cody's
connection to Digimon and the DigiWorld
actually began long before he was born.
As a boy, Cody's father, Hiroki Hida, was best friends with Yukio
Oikawa, a lonely boy who had no other friends. Somehow,
Hiroki and Oikawa were in communication with the DigiWorld via
Hiroki's video game system - Hiroki himself may have had a
Digimon, as Oikawa had one named Datirimon.
However, Cody's grandfather - Hiroki's father - decided that they
were spending too much time "playing video games" -
which was all he thought they were doing - and put a stop to it.
Hiroki and Oikawa remained friends - they apparently worked on a
project of some kind together until they were young men (which
may or may not have cumulated in the creation of Arukenimon).
However, Hiroki had got married, had a son - Cody - and become a
policeman in his adulthood, and got in the line of fire during an
assassination attempt on an important political figure. Hiroki
died, and Oikawa was left utterly alone in the world.
Cody, still only very young, continued to live with his mother
and grandfather. When the DigiWorld appeared in the sky after the
destruction of the villainous VenomMyotismon in
Tokyo in 1999, Cody, his mother and his grandfather were on board
the plane that came into contact with the warp, and was saved
from crashing by Garudamon and MegaKabuterimon.
It was then than Cody saw his first Digimon.
In the original planning packet, Cody was one of the children
brought before Myotismon during his invasion of Odaiba, but this
was later changed.
Four years later, Cody and his friend Yolei encountered
T.K. of the original eight DigiDestined in their
apartment building - T.K. and his mother had just moved in, and
the three of them walked to school together. Meanwhile, however,
in the DigiWorld, the evil Digimon Emperor had
begun his conquest, and Agumon summoned Tai
to help. Tai found the Digi-Egg of Courage, but
when he touched it, three new Digivices emerged
from it, and travelled into the real world, to be recieved by
Cody, Yolei and Davis - the new DigiDestined.
The next day, Izzy and Sora
accompanied the new DigiDestined into the DigiWorld, but Davis
and Veemon were captured by the Emperor. Cody
and Yolei found their first Digi-Eggs, and met their Digimon
partners, Armour Digivolving them to help free
Davis and Veemon.
A little later, Cody began to fear that he was letting the team
down, but his grandfather convinced him that all he had to do was
try his hardest, and that way, he wasn't letting anyone down.
Cody arrived a little late as the team headed off to the
DigiWorld, with Joe in tow, to answer a distress
call from Gomamon. In the ensuing scuffle with
some Frigimon, Cody took a tumble into a
freezing river, but Gomamon fished him out, and Joe took care of
him. The Emperor then attacked with Shellmon and
Ebidramon, but Digmon and Ikkakumon
defeated them, and Cody ended the adventure by properly
introducing himself to Joe.
Cody was present on all the team's adventures together, telling
everyone about his experience on the plane and seeing his first
Digimon when the team met Michael. Later, Cody
and the others were trapped in an offshore oil platform by MegaSeadramon,
and Cody had to overcome his fear of the sea to use a submersible
to get help from Joe. Ikkakumon arrived and battled
MegaSeadramon, and, with some convincing from Joe, activated the
newly-uncovered Digi-Egg of Reliability,
allowing Armadillomon to Armour Digivolve to Submarimon
to help defeat MegaSeadramon.
Shortly thereafter, Cody and Submarimon located the Digimon
Emperor's fortress, and made their way inside to help free the
Emperor's captives. After the ensuing battles with Kimeramon,
Cody and the others finally made the Emperor understand that
Digimon are living creatures. Stunned, the Emperor collapsed in
tears of self-disgust, and reverted back to his true persona of Ken
Ichijouji.
However, Cody could not forgive Ken for what he had done. When
the DigiDestined were rebuilding a Punimon
village, Cody and Digmon were at work underground, but were
attacked by Thundermon. Digmon reverted to
Armadillomon, and then Digivolved into Ankylomon
to try and drive Thundermon away, as Cody did not want him to
fight. Cody was swept up in a hail of rock from the little
Digimon's attack, but was saved by a mysterious Digimon... who
was revealed to be Stingmon, the Digivolved form
of Wormmon, Ken's Digimon partner. Cody could
not understand why Ken had saved him, but still thought no
different of him. When Davis suggested they call on Ken to help
them deal with the reactor of his old fortress, which threatened
to explode, Cody protested, but Ken came anyway, and Paildramon
defeated Okuwamon - created by Arukenimon to
stop them - and the reactor.
When Ken, Davis and Cody were attacked by insectoid Digimon in
the Giga House, Cody and Submarimon saved Ken from a watery fate
in a giant washing machine - but he explained he was merely
evening the score.
When Davis and Ken, and then Kari and Yolei were
shown to be DNA Digivolving partners, Cody knew
that he and T.K. had to be partners. However, lately, T.K. had
been acting oddly violent and angry - but soon, Cody understood
why. The powers of darkness had returned in the form of BlackWarGreymon
- also created by Arukenimon and Mummymon - who
was destroying the Destiny Stones. The powers of
darkness had already taken Angemon from T.K.
once, and he feared it would happen again. Cody attempted to talk
sense into BlackWarGreymon, but while the misguided Digimon did
not listen, he did Cody no harm. When Cody finally understood
T.K.'s motives, Angemon and Ankylomon DNA Digivolved into Shakkoumon
for the first time.
Over time, Cody's hatred of Ken began to fade, and at Christmas,
he accepted Ken's invitation to his Christmas party. Then, he,
Armadillomon, Joe and Gomamon headed to Australia, as the other
DigiDestined travelled to other parts of the world, to round up
the wild Digimon who had appeared on Earth as a result of
Arukenimon opening all the Digi-Ports. There, they met an
Australian DigiDestined named Derek, and his Crabmon
Digivolved into Coelamon to help
Submarimon and Zudomon deal with the aquatic Digimon there and
send them back to the DigiWorld.
Cody and Joe returned to Odaiba to find that an evil Digimon
named Daemon and his minions had come to Earth
in search of Ken and the Dark Spore within him.
Shakkoumon battled MarineDevimon at a hospital,
as T.K., Cody and Jim Kido helped a disabled
girl get to safety. Shakkoumon's only option was to destroy
MarineDevimon, shocking and upsetting Cody. Cody then showed his
friendship to Ken along with everyone else to open a gate to the World
of Darkness, through which Daemon was sent.
Soon thereafter, Oikawa, who had already copied Ken's Dark Spore
and implanted it in other children, learned that Cody was the son
of his old friend Hiroki. When he tried to use the children,
Spores and Key Cards to open the portal to the
DigiWorld, he wound up in another dimension, where the truth came
out - the spirit of Myotismon had been inside
him for the last four years, controlling his actions. Myotismon
emerged, and used the power of the Spores to become MaloMyotismon,
before destroying Arukenimon and Mummymon. MaloMyotismon then
subjected the kids to illusions of their greatest desires - for
Cody, it was his father being alive again, and Cody being able to
show him the digital world. Armadillomon appeared to explain how
it wasn't real, and Flamedramon appeared to take
him back to the other kids, who were in the process of breaking
free of their illusions. Cody and the others then used the power
of the dream dimension against MaloMyotismon, making their own
dreams come true, and letting all their Digimon Digivolve to all
their different stages at once. MaloMyotismon fled to the
DigiWorld, but the kids followed. As he tried to infect Earth
with pure darkness, the power of dreams, and Imperialdramon's
Giga Crusher attack - powered with the energy of the Digivices of
all the world's DigiDestined - destroyed him for good.
Cody went back into the dream dimension to recover the fallen
Oikawa, dragging him to the edge of the portal, when Datirimon
appeared, and Oikawa was reunited with him. However,
MaloMyotismon had taken too much of Oikawa's energy - and, using
the dream dimension to fulfil a dream of his own, Oikawa's body
deleted in Cody's arms, and the digital particles transformed
into a host of butterflies, which spread across the DigiWorld,
restoring peace and beauty to it.
Three months later, it was discovered that Diaboromon
had survived his battle with Omnimon four years
beforehand, and had spent the time in between reproducing as
millions of Kuramon. Cody was in Kendo practise when he was
called by Izzy and learned of this. The Kuramon were appearing in
the real world by transmitting themselve through e-mail, so while
Tai, Matt and Omnimon battled Diaboromon on the 'net, the other
kids were set on the trail of the Kuramon - Cody and T.K. located
one at a soccer game, and sent it to Izzy to deal with. T.K.,
Kari and their Digimon entered the 'net and helped Omnimon defeat
Diaboromon, but then the Kuramon all entered the real world, and
gathered in Tokyo Harbour, where Cody and Yolei watched as they
became Armageddemon. When Imperialdramon Paladin
Mode defeated Armageddemon, the villain split into Kuramon again,
and it was Cody who hit upon the idea for everyone to use their
Digivices and cell phones to capture them.
25 years into the future, the portal to the DigiWorld remains
open, and Armadillomon remains at Cody's side. Cody is now a
high-class defence lawyer - he is married, and has a daughter (Nothing
was said of his wife, but many have theorised she may be the
disabled girl he helped rescue previously).
Cody first appears in "Enter
Flamedramon." His voice is supplied by Philece
Sampler.
"CODY TAKES A STAND"
Digimon Adventure 02 episode #35
English version written by Jeff Nimoy & Bob Buchholz
BlackWarGreymon destroys another Destiny
Stone, and Cody learns
about T.K.'s hatred for evil. The DigiDestined
try to hide the next Destiny Stone, but despite help from Dolphmon,
MegaSeadramon and Ikkakumon,
and Cody's attempt to talk BlackWarGreymon down, the Stone is
destroyed.
COELAMON
Group: Ancient Fish - Level: Champion
- Type: Data - Attack Techniques: Fossil Bite,
Ancient Bite
Coelamon is the Digivolved form of Crabmon,
the Digimon partner of Derek,
the DigiDestined from Australia. Crabmon
Digivolved to Coelamon to help Zudomon and Submarimon
defeat a Scorpiomon and some other aquatic Digimon, who were then
returned to the DigiWorld. Coelamon then used
his Fossil Bite attack to destroy the last Control Spire in
Australia.
Coelamon appears in "Digimon World Tour,
Pt. 2." His voice is supplied by Joe
Ochman.
Name: From "coelacanth," a type of
prehistoric fish, which still lives on today. However, while
"coelacanth" is pronounced "Sell-ah-kanth,"
"Coelamon" is pronounced "Ko-el-a-mon." We
must take this pronunciation to be canon, although it is not
literally correct.
CONTROL SPIRES
The
Control Spires are creations of the Digimon Emperor,
erected all across the DigiWorld. When powered
up, they project an energy field with prevents Digimon
from Digivolving normally. Armour
Digivolving is not affected by this process, and
apparently neither is DNA Digivolving. The
Emperor used the mechanisms in his base to broadcast the power of
his Dark Digivice to the Spires, which in turn
sent power to the Dark Rings in their immediate
vicinity.
The first time the new kids actually acknowledged the existence
of a Control Spire, and realised what it could do, was when they
were trying to free the village of Santa Caria from the Emperor's
control. Veemon goaded RedVegiemon
into cracking the Spire, damaging it enough so it no longer
worked, and Gabumon Digivolved into Garurumon
to destroy it.
The Emperor continued to erect Spires, at a faster rate than the DigiDestined
could destroy them, even with help from the older
DigiDestined, Joe and Mimi.
When Ken Ichijouji - the Emperor's human
identity - ran away from home to live in the DigiWorld and be the
Emperor permanently, he set up Spires faster than ever. A Spire
was even seen in the World of Darkness - but
there is question as to quite how and when the Emperor erected it
there - if erect it he truly did (see below).
When the Emperor was restored to his true self, his Digivice
ceased supplying power to the Control Spires, and the Digimon
were able to Digivolve into Champion in their
presence to destroy them. However, a mysterious woman began to
appear to plague the team, somehow having the ability to power up
dormant Control Spires and being able to convert them into
unliving Digimon. The DigiDestined had no qualms about destroying
them, however, as they were not really Digimon. The mystery woman
created Thundermon, Golemon and
Minotarumon from Spires, and then later combined
a large number of towers together to create Okuwamon.
Shortly thereafter, her identity was revealed - she was Arukenimon,
a female, spider-like Digimon who could transform into a human
shape.
Arukenimon and her partner, Mummymon, then
combined one hundred Control Spires together to create BlackWarGreymon
- but the leftover programs within the Spires merged together,
and had an adverse side-effect, giving BlackWarGreymon an
individual mind, with thoughts and feelings. He refused to follow
Arukenimon's orders, and trekked across the DigiWorld, being
drawn by the power of Azulongmon, one of the
four guardians of the DigiWorld. BlackWarGreymon destroyed the
powerful Destiny Stones, freeing Azulongmon from
the prison the Dark Masters had held him in. He
and the other guardians had been unable to free themselves
because of the energy fields from the Control Spires. Azulongmon
explained to BlackWarGreymon that everything has a purpose in
life, and BlackWarGreymon set off to find his.
Then, Control Spires began to appear all across the face of the
Earth on Christmas Eve, and the kids' Christmas party was cut
short. Arukenimon had powered up a Spire in Odaiba,
so no-one could Digivolve until it was destroyed, but she had
also opened all the Digi-Ports, allowing wild
Digimon to come to Earth and cause havoc in different countries,
providing a distraction so she and Mummymon could kidnap children
in Japan, while the DigiDestined had to go all around the world
to destroy the Spires and send the Digimon back where they came
from. None of the Spires were powered up, however, so the Digimon
could Digivolve to easily destroy them.
Inured in battle with Oikawa, the human creator
of Arukenimon and Mummymon, and dying, BlackWarGreymon used the
last of his strength to seal up the portal to the DigiWorld, as
the Control Spires which formed the substance of his body were
used as a seal to close the rift between Earth and the DigiWorld
- and this was BlackWarGreymon's purpose that he had so long
searched for.
Oikawa later commented that the Control Spires were "a
present from the Dark Ocean" - this makes it clear that Ken
did not originate their design, and perhaps the one seen in the
World of Darkness by Kari and T.K. was
in fact the original Spire which gave Ken the idea to build them (see
"World of Darkness" entry for more information).
Oikawa went on to explain that the main function of the Spires -
their true purpose - was not to inhibit Digivolving, or to bind
Azulongmon, but to actually weaken the barriers between the real
world and the DigiWorld, to allow him access to it. Able to open
a gate to the DigiWorld, but unable to enter it personally, he
created Arukenimon and Mummymon, and sent them into the
DigiWorld, but seeing them there only made him want to go more,
so he hit upon the idea of using the Spires to allow him access.
When the DigiDestined stopped Ken, that plan was rendered
useless, and the Spires were left deactivated to be turned into
unliving Digimon by Arukenimon.
Control Spires first appear in "Enter
Flamedramon." They are not acknowledged by
the DigiDestined, or referred to by name, until "Iron
Vegiemon."
COURAGE, CREST OF
The Crest of
Courage is held by Tai, leader of the DigiDestined.
Tai found his Crest in a cave, disguised as a
rock wall, while the kids were fleeing from their first battle
with Etemon. Tai thought that because he was the
only kid to have a Crest, he had to be responsible for everyone,
and tried to make Greymon Digivolve
to a higher level using it. However, Tai hadn't mastered true
courage, so his Crest didn't glow. When Tai tried to force the
process, it became corrupted, and Greymon became SkullGreymon.
Fortunately, his energy expired before he could harm the kids. It
wasn't until Tai displayed true courage in rescuing Sora
from Datamon and standing up to Etemon that his
crest glowed, allowing Greymon to become MetalGreymon,
who went on to finish of Etemon with his Giga Blaster attack.
The Crest of Courage, like all the other kids' crests, was
destroyed by Apocalymon, but then Tai realised
that it didn't have the power - he did, and it had been inside
him all along.
At some point during the next four years, Tai gave up the powers
associated with the Crest of Courage, as the other kids did with
their Crests, to seal the DigiWorld off from
evil, rendering Agumon unable to Digivolve to
the Ultimate level.
The Crest of Courage first appeared in "The
Dark Network of Etemon." It was destroyed
in "Now Apocalymon."
COURAGE, DIGI-EGG OF
The Digi-Egg of
Courage belongs to Davis of the
DigiDestined, and is used on Veemon to Armour
Digivolve him into Flamedramon. It was
discovered by Tai upon his return to the DigiWorld,
when he was summoned by Agumon to help battle
against the Digimon Emperor. Despite bearing the
symbol of his own Crest, Tai was unable to lift the Digi-Egg of
Courage, but when he touched it, three new Digivices
emerged from it, and travelled into the real world, where they
were received by Davis, Yolei and Cody.
Davis then accompanied T.K. and Kari into
the DigiWorld in response to a distress call from Tai, and proved
to be the only one who would lift the Digi-Egg of Courage. When
the Egg was moved, a beam of energy emerged from beneath it, out
of which leapt Veemon. When the group was attacked by a Monochromon
under the control of the Emperor, Davis used his courage to open
the Digi-Egg, allowing Veemon to Armour Digivolve to Flamedramon
to defeat it.
The Digi-Egg of Courage was then stored within Davis's D-Terminal,
and was called on whenever Veemon needed to Armour Digivolve, by
means of the D-Terminal releasing its energy into Davis's D-3.
Towards the end of the year, when the kids were drawn into MaloMyotismons
dream dimension, Davis used the power of this other world to make
a dream of their own come true and Veemon Digivolved into
all his different forms at once. The Digi-Egg of Courage
transformed into Flamedramon, who helped to save Cody from his
illusion, but when all the Digimon attempted to pass through the
portal, only the real incarnation of Veemon could go
through, while Flamedramon avatar faded away.
The Digi-Egg of Courage first appears in "Enter
Flamedramon." Its not clear if the
fact that the Flamedramon avatar faded away means that the
Digi-Egg of Courage ceased to exist, but its very likely,
given that the Japanese title for the episode was "The Last
Armour Evolution."
CRABMON
Group: Crustacean - Level: Rookie
- Type: Data - Attack Techniques: Scissors
Attack, Crab Meat Bomber
Crabmon is the Digimon partner of Derek,
the DigiDestined from Australia. While they were
both out windsurfing, Derek and Crabmon were attacked by an Ebidramon,
a Shellmon and a Gesomon, but
made it to shore safely, where they met up with Joe,
Cody and their Digimon. Crabmon then Digivolved
into Coelamon to help Zudomon
and Submarimon battle and defeat a Scorpiomon.
Crabmon, along with the Digimon of all the world's DigiDestined,
appeared again when MaloMyotismon was infected
Earth with darkness.
Crabmon first appears in "Digimon World
Tour, Pt. 2." His voice is supplied by Joe
Ochman.
Name: From "crab," a sea-dwelling crustacean.
CREST
A small artefact that is inserted behind the plastic window on
the crest-owner's Tag. The Crests symbolise the
holder's greatest attribute, and endow the Digimon
of the holders the ability to Digivolve to the Ultimate
level.
The Crests were created by a mysterious group charged with
protecting the DigiWorld, four Earth years
before the events that brought the kids to the DigiWorld. When
the young children witnessed a battle between a Greymon
and Parrotmon at Highton View Terrace,
the group chose them to be the new DigiDestined,
and created their Crests after scanning them with a beam that
recorded their traits. A brutal attack by the Dark
Masters left the group dead, and Piedmon
managed to steal the Crests - despite the efforts of the sole
survivor Gennai, who took the Digi-Eggs
and Digivices that had also been created, and
hid them on File Island. It is not clear exactly
how after this the Crests came to be spread out over Server,
not how Devimon came into possession of the
Tags.
Tai's is the Crest of Courage, Sora's
is the Crest of Love, Matt's is
the Crest of Friendship, Izzy's
is the Crest of Knowledge, Mimi's
is the Crest of Sincerity, Joe's
is the Crest of Reliability, TK's
is the Crest of Hope and Kari's
is the Crest of Light. The Crests were
instrumental in defeating VenomMyotismon, but
during the kids' battle with Apocalymon, the
Crests and Tags were destroyed, and the kids' digital bodies were
deleted. As their data floated around in limbo, the kids realised
that it wasn't the Crests that had the power - it had been inside
them all along. They were able to reconstitute their digital
bodies, and then turned Apocalymon's Total Annihilation attack
against him, destroying him.
At some point during the next four years, after the battle with Diaboromon,
the kids were called back to the DigiWorld by Gennai, and had to
give up the powers associated with their Crests, to create an
energy shield to seal the DigiWorld off from evil. Doing this
left their Digimon unable to Digivolve to the Ultimate level
(however, this power was later restored by Azulongmon's
Digi-Core, and sacrificed again to power up Imperialdramon).
Azulongmon and the other guardians of the DigiWorld then created Digi-Eggs
with the same traits as the Crests for the new DigiDestined.
Gennai first tells the kids of the Crests in "Departure
for a New Continent." The first Crest to
be found is the Crest of Courage, in "The
Dark Network of Etemon."
